Equatorial Plaza: One Hour for Our Earth

30 March 2026 – Equatorial Plaza stood in global solidarity this past weekend, joining millions to mark the historic 20th anniversary of Earth Hour. Since its inception in Sydney in 2007, the movement has grown into the world’s largest grassroots environmental campaign, and this year, Equatorial Plaza reaffirmed its commitment to a sustainable future by dimming its lights from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM on March 28.

During the sixty-minute event, the building switched off its façade lights, signages, and driveway illumination, while reducing interior lighting by half. This collective effort saved approximately 50 kWh of energy—a significant contribution equivalent to powering a standard LED television for over 500 hours, running a household refrigerator for 10 days, or fully charging a smartphone more than 4,000 times.

As a GBI Gold Certified landmark, Equatorial Plaza’s participation reflects a core mission to harmonize premium workplace and hospitality services with environmental stewardship. By integrating lifestyle and sustainability, the building aims to serve the local community not just through infrastructure, but by championing the long-term health of the planet.

The skyline of Kuala Lumpur transformed as Equatorial Plaza joined iconic Malaysian landmarks, including the Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, and Merdeka 118. The participation extended to the TRX district, with The Exchange 106, Menara IQ, Menara Affin, Menara Prudential, and The Exchange TRX mall all plunging into darkness. Globally, this wave of conservation was mirrored by landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, the Eiffel Tower, the Empire State Building, and Germany’s Brandenburg Gate.

A small gesture can create a phenomenal effect.

While this hour is symbolic, the awareness it raises is essential for driving the public action needed to combat global environmental issues. Earth Hour reminds us that while Equatorial Plaza remains dedicated to long-term environmental protection, the power to make a positive impact ultimately lies in the hands of every individual. Whether through energy conservation or personal lifestyle shifts, every hour given to the Earth is a step toward a brighter, greener future.
